Book Reviews
For some time now, David Harley has been authoring reviews of security and other IT-related books for specialist publications like Virus Bulletin. We are now looking to expand our activities and scope in this area: for more information, contact info@smallblue-greenworld.co.uk.
August 2007

I'm now putting up some more recent, uncommissioned reviews of useful books that have hit my radar recently. Here are the first two. One is a book by Mark Barber on the subject of Urban Legends. The next is a book by Michael Miller on Wireless Networking with Microsoft Windows Vista™. Next up will be a couple of more security-related titles: watch this space.

Unless otherwise stated, copyright to all reviews remains with the author.

September 2006
By kind permission of Virus Bulletin here are some recent reviews they commissioned.

(1) David Harley, "War of the Words" and "I Spy", September 2006, Virus Bulletin. Copyright is held by Virus Bulletin Ltd, but is made available on this site for personal use free of charge, by permission of Virus Bulletin. These articles are reviews of two Syngress books. "War of the Words" is a review of Robert Slade's "Dictionary of Information Security." "I Spy" reviews "Combating Spyware in the Enterprise" by Baskin, Bradley, Caruso, Faircloth, James, Piccard, & Schiller.

July 2006

(2) David Harley, Phish Fingering, July 2006, Virus Bulletin. Copyright is held by Virus Bulletin Ltd, but is made available on this site for personal use free of charge by permission of Virus Bulletin. This is a review of "Phishing Exposed", by Lance James, published by Syngress.

I should also mention that my friend and colleague Robert Slade has been reviewing computing and technical books for many years, and you can find his review project here. Why am I directing you to a competing, free resource? Because we're not really in competition here. My reviews tend to be infrequent but in more depth. Well, longer, anyway. Which is why I rarely do them unless they're actually commissioned. In any case, Rob started long before I even knew him, and I probably don't have enough years left to compete on sheer volume. :)
